Following up
A week with no reply is the moment for a short note; CareerBot drafts it and you send it, after an application or an outreach message.
Most applications and messages go quiet. A week with no reply is the moment for a short note to the person you wrote to.
When it's due
After you apply. Seven days after you mark a pursuit Applied, if nothing has changed, the pursuit shows a reminder ("No news for 7 days") and it appears on Today. If it's still quiet, a second reminder comes 14 days after you applied. There are two at most.
After an outreach message. Write to one person at a time. Seven days after you mark a message sent with no reply, the reminder says Follow up with that person. One follow-up each: seven days after it, still quiet, Next contact names the next person you haven't written to, hiring manager first, then the team, then recruiting. After three people with no reply, it suggests applying through the posting, if you haven't, or closing the pursuit as No response.
A reply from anyone there (Mark a reply on People) stops these reminders.
You can Snooze a reminder: Tomorrow, In 3 days or Next week. Reminders can be switched off in Pursuits, ⋯ > Reminders ("Follow up when an application or outreach goes quiet").
What you do
- The step's button, Open the follow-up, opens your pursuit at its follow-up.
- Choose Write the follow-up. It's drafted to the last person you wrote to, from your record, the role, what it follows (your application, your outreach message, or both), the pursuit's timeline and that person. After an outreach message it's short, adds one thing you haven't said, and asks for a short call or who the right person would be. The cost shows first.
- Read it. Edit to change the words, or Rewrite for a new version; then Keep the new one or Keep the one I had.
- Copy and open Mail puts it in your own email, addressed and ready. Send it.
- Choose Mark as sent. It goes on the timeline as Followed up, and the next reminder counts from today.
In Getting started, the step Follow up is due a week after your first outreach message or your application, whichever came first. Following up finishes your first pursuit, end to end, on either path, and Getting started is done.
After that
Today becomes your daily list: new strong roles each morning, reminders for every pursuit, and anything waiting for your review. Keep adding stories as you remember things; every one makes the record, and everything built on it, stronger.
