On a phone

The bottom bar, More, sheets, press and hold for explanations, swiping cards, and Talk.

CareerBot works on a phone as fully as on a computer. The layout changes below 768 pixels wide; between 768 and 1279 the sidebar is a narrow rail; from 1280 up you get the full sidebar.

The bottom bar

Instead of the sidebar, a bar sits at the bottom in thumb reach with Today, Review (with how many decisions wait), Pursuits (with how many reminders are due) and More.

The bar changes with what you're doing:

  • With an item open, it holds that item's actions, the main one filling the rest of the bar.
  • While you're selecting rows, it shows how many are checked, what you can do to all of them, and Done.
  • Before something is deleted, it asks first, with the safe choice focused.
  • After a no, it holds the Why? field above the keyboard.

It turns back into the areas when you're done.

More

More opens a sheet with the rest: Companies, Resumes, Record with its pages, Goals with its pages, Reports, the Activity row, Settings and your account (Sign out).

Lists and items

A screen shows its list alone. Opening a row shows the item full screen, with a way back at the top. What would open beside it on a large screen (a fact's sources, a tailored resume, Ask about this role) opens as a sheet.

To act on several rows at once (in Pursuits, Companies, Skills, Tools, Certifications and a Review group's list), press and hold one, or tap Select in the list's ⋯ menu. Checkboxes show, a tap checks or unchecks a row, and the bottom bar holds what you can do to the checked ones. Done stops selecting.

Sheets

Menus, pickers, the ⋯ menu, a long-press menu, explanations and ⌘K all open as a sheet that rises from the bottom. Swipe it down, tap outside it, or press Esc to close.

Press and hold

There's no hover on a phone, so:

  • Press and hold a button to read what it does and what it costs, in a sheet titled with its name.
  • Press and hold a row for its menu, the same as its ⋯ menu. On a row you can select (see above), pressing and holding checks it and starts selecting instead.
  • Press and hold a number or a bar in Reports for what it counts.

Swiping in Review

A review card swipes: right approves, left rejects. Its other actions sit in the bottom bar.

Talk

When writing a story or a quick note in Record, or your first story in Getting started, Talk types as you speak, using the browser's own speech recognition. Words still being heard show greyed; finished ones go into the text and save when you stop. Nothing is recorded or kept. A phone stops listening when the screen locks or the app goes to the background; what was heard is already in the text. Where the browser can't listen, the screen points to your phone keyboard's own dictation instead.

Tours

Tours work on a phone too, as a card at the bottom of the screen.
