Google Drive
CareerBot keeps Google Docs of your resumes, letters and answers in a CareerBot folder in your Drive, and can see only the files it makes.
Connect Google Drive and CareerBot keeps a Google Doc of each resume in a CareerBot folder in your Drive, updated when you keep a new version. It's optional and free: syncing uses no AI and no credits.
What it keeps
CareerBot/
Base resume
Directions/<direction>/Resume
Tailored/<company>/<role>/Resume, Cover letter, Answers
- Your base resume, and the resume for each approved direction, kept in step with the version you keep.
- For each role you've tailored for: its resume, cover letter and answers, whichever it has.
- A renamed direction or company renames its folder. A new version of a resume updates the same Doc.
- Once a pursuit is marked Applied (or later), its files are written once as sent, then left alone, like the app keeps what you sent.
CareerBot syncs soon after changes to your documents, contact details, layout or sources, and checks once a day as a safety net. Use Sync now to recreate a file you deleted in Drive.
What it can see
Only the files it makes, and the folder you choose for them. Google calls this access "the files it creates"; CareerBot asks for nothing else, so it can't read anything else in your Drive. Connecting Drive is separate from signing in, even with the same Google account.
Connect it
- In Settings, Connections, under Resumes and projects, choose Connect Google Drive (or from the step on Today).
- On Google's screen, keep the box that lets CareerBot see the files it makes. If you untick it, CareerBot isn't connected: "Google Drive isn’t connected: CareerBot needs access to the files it makes."
- You come back to CareerBot, signed in as the account that started connecting, and the first sync starts. A connection started from another account is refused, so nobody can send you a link that puts your Drive in their account.
Settings, Connections
- Account
- Which Google account it's connected as. Disconnect stops syncing and ends CareerBot's access to your Drive. Your CareerBot folder and its Docs stay in Drive. Connect again any time.
- CareerBot folder
- Where it is. Open folder opens it in Drive. Choose a folder opens Google's own folder picker to choose where the CareerBot folder lives; it moves there with everything in it, and you can undo with U.
- Sync
- How many Docs, and when it last synced. Sync now syncs straight away. If files didn't sync, it says how many and why, with Try again. If Google's access has lapsed, it offers Connect again.
Each resume in Resumes also shows where its Doc stands.
On careerbot.dev and on your own copy
On careerbot.dev, Google Drive is set up for you: connect it and go.
On a copy you run yourself, Drive uses the same Google sign-in keys you'd set up for Continue with Google. Until they're set, Connect Google Drive says "Not available yet". Choose a folder appears only once the Google Picker key is also set. Setting those keys up also lets people sign in with Google, if you want that. See Keys and accounts.
