Resumes, letters and outreach
Everything CareerBot writes comes from your approved facts, shows what each line rests on, and follows when a fact changes.
Everything CareerBot writes is written from your approved record, and each line cites the approved facts it rests on; a line left with no approved fact behind it is marked No approved basis, so you can fix or cut it. If a model cites anything else, the citation is dropped. Writing is told to add no claim, number, tool or title your record doesn't have; a line that slips through without a basis is the one flagged, so review those before you use it.
Three kinds of resume
- Base resume
- A neutral resume of your whole approved record: summary, experience, projects and skills.
- Direction resume
- One for each approved direction, written with its approved positioning. It can't be written until the positioning is approved.
- Tailored resume
- One for a single posting: a role from Pursuits or a posting you paste. It starts from the direction's resume; if there isn't one yet, that's written first in the same run.
Experience comes from your approved roles: employer, title and dates are taken from the role, never made up. A bullet counts only an approved fact of that same role. Approved career breaks are entries of their own, with bullets only from their own facts, and whether one shows is your choice. Where you've connected the same work in a project and a role, it's written as one line.
What a tailored resume adds
A tailored resume comes with its requirements: each requirement of the posting, how strongly your record shows it (Strong, Some, Weak, or None when nothing in your record speaks to it) and the approved facts it rests on, summed up as, for example, "5 of 11 strong". For each role, it may suggest a title your facts support in the posting's own wording, as a suggestion you choose to use.
A tailored resume is kept as written. Tailor again writes a new one; the earlier one stays.
Versions
Every resume keeps every version. Write again writes a new version beside the one you have, to Keep or Discard. When your record has changed since, Add what’s new writes lines only for what you added or reworded, to add one by one. Compare versions shows two side by side, and History lists every version with Restore.
Lines tied to facts
Click any line to see what it's built on: the approved facts behind it, with their sources. You can pin a line, hide it, or put it in your own words. A line in your words keeps the facts it rests on and shows Edited, with CareerBot's words a click away.
Check against facts
Check against facts reads a line (or the summary) you put in your own words beside the facts it rests on, and says whether it says only what those facts support, marking any words that go beyond them. It runs only when you ask, with its estimate beside the button. The answer stays until you edit the words again, or until one of those facts changes.
When a fact changes
When you edit or reject an approved fact, every line resting on it is marked on each document still in use: your base resume, each approved direction's current resume, and the tailored resume, cover letter and answers of any pursuit not yet sent. Update lines rewrites only those lines from the facts as they read now; a line left resting on no fact that counts is dropped. You see each new line first, then Apply puts them in place (the rest stays as it is, and Google Drive follows) or Discard keeps the old ones, still marked.
Cover letters
Write a letter writes a cover letter for one role, in the first person, from your approved record, the resume tailored to that role and the posting, signed with your name. It needs a tailored resume first. Each paragraph cites approved facts. Every version is kept and the newest is used; editing it makes a new version. Once the application is sent, the letter is kept as sent.
Ask about this role
Ask about this role opens a conversation kept with each pursuit. Paste an application question and get an answer in the first person to paste back, or ask anything about the role, the company, or how to present yourself. Answers rest on your approved record, the tailored resume and the posting, cite approved facts, and say when your record or the posting doesn't support something. Answers you keep go to the pursuit's Answers.
When you tell it something new about yourself, your message, in your words, is sent to your record as a note. What it holds comes back as proposals in Review; it's never used as approved before you approve it.
Outreach
In a pursuit's People tab, CareerBot finds contacts at the company with free Apollo searches, in three groups: the hiring manager, the team and recruiting. Revealing someone's email costs 1 Apollo credit, only for the person you choose, and is never paid for twice.
Draft a message writes an outreach message from you to that person, from your approved record and the role, in four parts: who you are, why this role, why you fit (with the facts it rests on), and one small ask that suits the person: a short call with a hiring manager, what the team needs from someone on it, a place in the process from a recruiter. A second person at the same company gets a new message, not a copy. What it says shows the four parts. You send it from your own email (Copy and open Mail; Download resume saves the tailored resume as a PDF to attach) and Mark as sent. CareerBot never sends email for you.
Follow-ups
When an application has gone quiet, or after an interview, CareerBot writes a short follow-up email to the person you last wrote to (or else the likely hiring manager), from your approved record, the role and where the application stands. A rewrite waits beside the draft until you keep it. You send it yourself and mark it sent; it goes on the pursuit's timeline, and the reminder starts over.
Google Drive copies
With Google Drive connected (in Settings, under Google Drive), CareerBot keeps a Google Doc of each resume, cover letter and set of answers in a CareerBot folder in your Drive:
CareerBot/
Base resume
Directions/<Direction>/Resume
Tailored/<Company>/<Role>/Resume, Cover letter, Answers
A Doc is updated in place, so its link stays the same and Drive keeps earlier versions in its own history. Renaming a direction or company renames its folder. A tailored file is frozen once its pursuit moves past Preparing (Applied, Interviewing, Offer or Closed), so it stays as sent. CareerBot can see only the files it makes and the folder you choose. Disconnecting stops syncing; your files stay in Drive.
